December 2007
Following are highlights from the December WoodNote:

The assessment for 2008 is $503.00, an increase of $38 from 2007. Residents and the Revitalization Committee voiced their support in board meetings for this increase to invest in neighborhood improvements. For more information, visit http://www.kingsforestwoodnote.blogspot.com.

The Board and Revitalization Committee are gathering bids on improvements to be phased in over a few years, which will include softscape (landscaping) and hardscape (walls, signage). We also are researching various types of lighting. The proposed plan would hopefully include creating a new monument or marker at the corner of Woodland Hills Dr. and Kingwood Dr. While available space is limited, this corner is the first impression of Kings Forest as one comes into the residential area of Kingwood.

We're pleased to announce a major accomplishment in funding revitalization: in the December 3 board meeting, Bob Braun announced that he and Howard Pitman had decided to allocate $10,000 to revitalization in the 2008 budget. A Revitalization Fund will be created; in fact, three residents present at the board meeting pledged to donate $600, but as a nonprofit, KFCA could not accept their cash. Revitalization is off to a rousing start, thanks to these individuals.

The board and committee will continue to look at other sources of funding; for example, by changing how we operate the Kings Forest pool. Realizing that 54 percent of our residents have their own pools and attendance is low at the community pool, we're surveying residents on reducing operations. Please be sure to send in the survey that was included in your assessment mailing to KSA (see address below) postmarked by December 15th so that your opinion can be counted. Results should be available in January. ing pledged to donate $600, but as a nonprofit, KFCA could not accept their cash. Revitalization is off to a rousing start, thanks to these individuals.

The Deed Restriction Committee asks that you avoid the most common deed violations:
• Make sure your landscaping crew knows not to put bagged trimmings out at the street; you pay extra for pick up at your garage.
• Don’t remove trees larger than 6” diameter (measured 2 ft. above the ground) without getting permission.

Maintenance Committee asks you to consider these five ways to enhance Kings Forest:
Look your front property line. If you see a ragged edge to your grass, rake out the crumbling asphalt shoulders and let grass grow out to the higher level pavement.
– Don't let your landscaping crew leave grass in the street. Have them sweep it up or blow it back in the yard.
– Report leaning or damaged signs, potholes, streetlight issues, litter, sewer, or other issues on the City of Houston website or call 311.
– Replace your mailbox and pole. Get together with your neighbors to plan a consistent look for your block.
– Clean street signs on or near your property.
